Conventional methods of addressing this issue—removing pavement, excavating roots, and replacing pavement—often result in recurring problems. Root systems typically regenerate within five years, leading to the same cracking pavement issues and, in severe cases, risking tree stability and pedestrian safety. Developed through three decades of study by our Founder Noble Atkins, a degreed Forester from Texas A&M, our third-generation vented Root Aeration Matting Systems (vRAM) are designed specifically to alleviate the conflict between urban hardscape and infrastructure. These systems are installed on grade before placing new pavement to ensure that the subsurface tree roots receive the necessary aeration to thrive while maintaining the integrity of new pavement.  vRAM also works well for areas receiving grade fill above the original elevation.  Grade fills from 1 to 20 feet have been successfully mitigated using vRAM.
